My friend Jam, since his retirement 6 years ago, has put his heart and soul to make something inspiring to share with the people of Preston. There has been a huge investment in this garden with a lot of work from his friends including myself, and we have produced a wonderful community site. The house has already become a landmark in the area for its artwork and gardens, and has brought the community together.
However, Gateway Housing Association took Jam to court and he received six months suspended sentence for not destroying his garden and planting extra plants and flowers, and all the ceramic work inside the house. This work is so unique that they received recognition from Professor Charles Quick and many known local artists.
Councillor James Hull, after visiting the house and seeing the art work all over the house has condemn the action and has written to Gateway: "...it seems unfair and unreasonable that he should be required to destroy the interior art work while he is resident in the flat. The internal ceramics do not harm anyone else and it seems very heavy handed, to the point of being cruel to request him to change his interior decor and art work, unless Gateway wanted vacant possession of the premises. In such an eventuality Mr Imani-Rad would willingly remove his decorations and restore the flat as it was before he became resident."
Gateway must answer the question: How can they claim a garden statue to be offensive. My friend got a 6 months suspended prison sentence, or is it because you just enjoy destroying his life and the joy that keeps him alive. Most importantly Gateway should explain what joy they receive by demolishing something so beautiful. If they fail to answer, should we not ask ourselves if this organization is run by rational thinking or immature emotions in the form of a tenant policy ? Their 'win' by the court was with the legal frameworks of tenant law, that will never see the garden for what it is, just the fact that legislation allows them to destroy my work.
He wishes that Gateway does not destroy his dream and let him finish his work before he leaves his body. He wants to dedicate this to beautiful people of Preston as a symbol of thankful immigrant.
Jam wishes no protest or demonstration as it has been forbidden by the court but he appreciates your presence and spirit at the farewell garden party, to be able to thank-you for your support personally, and smile with you at this phenomenal stupidity and unreasonable cruelty.
